SEED® MCC100S is a redispersible cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) powder developed by Seed Company. It is produced through the hydrolysis of microcrystalline cellulose into nanoscale crystalline particles using sulfuric acid, followed by washing, purification, surface modification, concentration, and spray drying. Its molecular formula can be expressed as (C6H10O5)n, where n represents the number of repeating units in the cellulose chain. The crystalline structure of SEED® MCC100S provides an exceptionally high specific surface area of 700 m²/g and unique physicochemical properties.

MCC100S is a spray-dried powder that can be redispersed in water (including pure water and deionized water), with a wide range of applications. In addition to aqueous media, MCC100S can also be dispersed in strongly polar organic solvents such as ethanolamine, dimethylformamide (DMF), dioctyl phthalate (DOP), dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), and ethylene glycol. Notably, if MCC100S powder is pre-dispersed in water, subsequent addition of methanol or ethanol will not compromise the stability of the aqueous suspension.

MCC100S can be used in nylon, paper batteries, high-grade paper, plastics, rubber, composites, medical devices, pharmaceutical excipients, food, cosmetics, flexible electronic displays, petrochemicals, pigments, coatings, water-based paints, and adhesives to enhance barrier properties, strength, stiffness, and thermal stability. It can also serve as an emulsifier, stabilizer, and thickening agent.
